Gili Senang

Relatively big place again with about 60+ seats. Again they managed to put up another unique place like their other two (Canupa/ Heerenveen and Esara/Sneek). Same menu as the others. Here is another garden including a fountain but also sadly that room serves as an aviary, too. Including bird houses on the wall and the floor. Which is one of the cruellest parts of human stupidity. I mean how can one lock up birds in a room (doesn't t matter which size) for the entertainment of others and call that barbarism species-appropriate husbandry? Zoos are bad enough but isn't especially flying the symbol of freedom? Apart from that a nice shop.

Located in the Centrum, and not well marked as a coffeeshop, we happened upon it whilst making a quick exploration of Drachten (the Cool name warranted an exit from the highway between Groningen and Sneek). Kind of looks like an old Buddhist temple or something from the outside. Roomy, pleasant staff and clientele (I think they were a bit surprised to find tourists in the shop, as Drachten is one of those modern type Dutch towns, with very little sign of the old style architecture, and probably not often visited by foreign tourists), anyway the traveling companion was well satisfied with her purchase. The customers were mainly sitting at the bar, chatting quietly among themselves, reading the daily paper, etc. Pleasant stop.
